Maine Origin Of The Name

There are two theories for the origin of the name "Maine." One has it that the name is in some way connected to the older Province of Maine in France. [2] Another theory is that seafarers of Colonial time referred to the land mass as "the main" in distinction to the many islands found along the coast. [3]
